I need to embrace my Malay self... not.

Somehow I am a little tired of people asking me if I really am Malay.

Looks-wise, I'm rather fair, and I do not like a typical mina-mina type of Malay girl. And I know I don't go ITE cos that's where (from what I understand from the Malay riders I work with) a lot of minagirls go.

"Eh, you still schooling?"
"Not yet. Going to though."
"Oh where? ITE?"
"...dude. I've been done with my A levels two years ago."
*goes O.O* "Walau eh, you so smart ah?"

Not that I'm saying that minas are not good at studies (ahemahem), but it's just that the fact that I learnt fricking Chinese when I was 5 and 6 years of age, have more Chinese friends than Malay friends (hell, back in secondary school I know I only have one true Malay best friend), and do not speak with the typical mina/Malay accent does not make the less Malay than you do.

Plus the fact that I am pure Javanese from both sides of my family.

Oh, maybe I should tell them, Oh no I'm not Malay, I'm Javanese. That's a whole different ball game altogether you know.

Pisang goreng or goreng pisang?

Mi goreng or goreng mi?

...

Then again, I don't speak mina. Or mat. Like 'kena berak'? Somehow it's slang for being dumped, though the literal translation is 'got hit by shit'. And I don't know that. OMG LOL WHAAAAT?? O.O

Anyway.

IMPERIAL PHOTOSETS. *makes grabby hands at Kawai's and Saitou's, if he has any* Kawai's birthday one is OMG WANTS. Perfect birthday prezzie for Kumi.

Please note, this is written after having less than 4 hours' sleep in the past couple of days, having to walk from here to there and back again before going back to there with heavy bags, and having a family barbeque with cracky jokes which made me realise that even thoughI look so un-Malay, I still am one.

Yeah. If I'm a mina, I won't be interested in all this. I'd probably get married early and have lots of kids instead of having fun with what I have now. :3

Hnn... I hate when people ask stupid questions like that.

I don't really get it as much though because I look Chinese, but I do hate how I get treated differently because I'm a BBC (British Born Chinese) and not born in Hong Kong or China.

When I went to university a few years back, a group of Chinese students from Hong Kong were sitting in the row behind me. They'd found out I'd been born in Scotland and had lived here all my life and were talking to each other in cantonese about me.

They kept saying things like: oh, she's a BBC, she can't understand us. She doesn't speak cantonese, etc. So I turned around after a while and told them, in fluent cantonese, that if they were going to talk about me behind my back, then don't talk so loudly because I those things framing my face are ears and I can hear every single word they're saying XD

That shut them up pretty fast ^__^

I can't tolerate people who are like that who look down on you or think you're weird because you're not like the majority of them *rolls eyes*
